Description

Chena River State Recreation Site (also known as Chena Wayside) is located in Fairbanks at 3530 Geraghty Ave. This 29-acre park sits on the banks of the Chena River. Facilities include over 60 campsites for vehicles, 16 have electric and water hookup, five walk-in campsites, picnic sites along the river, drinking water, restrooms with flush toilets, dump station, boat launch, and river-side walking trails. For group use by reservation, there is a play field with a shelter.

Some of the campsites and picnic sites, as well as the restrooms, drinking water, and shelter, are ADA accessible.

There is a state park called Chena River State Recreation Area, not to be confused with this park, Chena River State Recreation Site. Recreation:

The Chena River offers fishing and water sport recreation opportunities. The boat launch is a popular put in and take out point for floating the Chena River. The site has open spaces for catching frisbee, playing horseshoes, and walking trails.

Facilities:

The site has 4 restrooms with flush toilets, dump station, volleyball, horseshoe, and swing set, boat launch, 56 sites, 5 walk-in tent sites, 16 sites with hook-ups, and 10 picnic sites along the river.

Nearby Attractions:

The campground is on the bus line, is one block from grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping malls. Laundry and showers are close by.

Fees and Cancellation Policies

Special Policy Applicable to this Facility

Reservation Fees

A Reservation Fee of $2/night will be added to the campsite fee, up to a total of $8 maximum per transaction. Reservation fees are non-refundable, non-transferable. No exceptions.

Change/Transfer Policy

Reservations may be modified up to 2 calendar days prior to arrival check-in time online through Reserve America and incur a $3 change fee. Reservations may not be modified less than 48 hours prior to day of arrival. Customers may extend stays without incurring a modification fee.

Important Note: A change in reservation dates where no dates of stay involved in the original reservation are the same as the dates of stay for the resulting reservation, will require a cancellation of the original reservation and the booking of a new reservation with all applicable service fees.

Cancellation/No-Show Policy

Cancellations must be made at least 3 calendar days prior to arrival date for a full refund (does not include transaction/cancellation fees). Cancellations must be made through www.reserveamerica.com. You must cancel your reservations online, from your account. If you fail to cancel in a timely manner, or fail to use the facility for reasons other than the exceptions listed below, a refund is not available.
Exceptions: If you were unable to use the facility due to events beyond your control, such as extreme weather/hazardous conditions (as determined by Alaska State Parks), or closure of a road, trail, or facility by the State, you may request a refund. Requests for refunds must be made within three (3) business days of the last date of your reservation to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources Public Information Center at 907-269-8400. Please provide your reservation number when you call. In the event of a natural emergency or sudden campground/site closure, a full refund will be issued. The Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation reserves the right to make the final determination of whether a refund will be issued.
No-Shows - A reservation turns into "no-show" status at check-in time on the day after the scheduled arrival date unless alternate arrangements have been made with the park. The entire reservation will be cancelled and all fees are forfeited.

Park Staff are not authorized to give cash refunds. Refunds for canceled reservations online will be made by issuing a credit to the card used for payment.
