The ruins of a World War II coastal defense installation coupled with steep, surf-pounded cliffs, deep spruce forests, and wildflower-laden meadows offer you a unique opportunity to learn about the events of World War II while enjoying the natural beauty of Kodiak Island.
Geography:
The park offers Historic WWII history and remnants, scenic views overlooking ocean bays, coastal cliffs and distant mountain landscapes and approximately seven miles of trails winding through spruce forest and around Lake Gertrude.
Recreation:
Picnic shelter, volleyball court, horseshoe pit, hiking, self-guided WWII historic walking tour, wildlife and marine mammal viewing, tidepooling, beachcombing, a park exploration puzzle, bird watching, fishing, surfing, and summer naturalist programs.
Facilities:
The park facilities include; a reservable picnic pavilion area with six tables, fire ring, and charcoal grill, an outhouse, volleyball court and horseshoe pit. A small clean campground with 5 small vehicle sites and 3 walk-in sites, a self-guided historic tour of the WW II fortification remnants and bunkers, The Kodiak Military History Museum, a park exploration puzzle, approximately seven miles of hiking trails, trout fishing in Lake Gertrude, scenic overlooks along the ocean cliffsides, wildlife and bird watching, and marine mammal viewing.
